Here's a cottage garden in Chirnside which required a complete make-over, the new owner wanted a small patio area and mixed border in place of this grassy mound...

Work in progress...

And the finished garden, complete with a new fence around the perimeter.

That job took quite a few days to complete, but sometimes a quick tidy up taking just an hour or two is needed,
this courtyard in Eyemouth just needed sprucing up a little...

A couple of hours is all it takes...

This client in Haddington needed a path from their front door, this took me a couple of days to put in...
Before...

And After!...

Mystery Plant!
These grow in abundance at my sister's house in Achiltibuie in Sutherland - they are thriving in very wet very peaty conditions and later in the summer will grow to stand 3 or 4 feet high - the leaves alone can measure 18-24 inches long! But do you know what they are?....Scroll down to the bottom of the page if you want to find out...

The mystery plant.... well, I think it's a... LYSICHITON AMERICANUS or SKUNK CABBAGE!! According to my plant encyclopedia "an aquatic perennial, it grows in the margins of ponds and streams", opinions are split over the aroma - some call it 'musky' - but one has to wonder where it got it's 'skunky' reputation! And it might be edible, but maybe that's just for skunks too! But if you are wondering how hardy it is, well, this plant has some pretty special properties, it is more than hardy! It can melt snow! This amazing plant has the strange ability to generate heat! Apparently it can generate up to 20 degrees C! Which would also be of great benefit to less hardy marginals planted nearby. A real collector's plant! I hope to propagate from these and try to grow them in our own garden, so let me know if you fancy trying them yourself, or watch this space to see how we get on!
